Ending net neutrality is not the end of the world it’s just the same policy we have had the majority of the time before 2012, before 2012 I never remember paying money to join some websites of the internet do you? Also this issue is in the courts so..

It's common sense that they went through all that trouble to lift net neutrality for a reason. They will benefit from it, if not now then later on. If people don't take action right now, corporations such as Comcast will start giving out special offers just to distract and divert people until the case has calmed down then bam, you will regret it all.

The way to keep the internet free and open and protect consumers is to crack down on internet service providers that would abuse open access.
Coban
Coban
but that's what net neutrality did though??
T
Trump15024
What I am saying is that net neutrality means open access to the internet which means companies can take advantage of that. But if it was me voting I would have kept it as it is, because it is causing more problems to get rid of it then keeping it example legal battles.
Coban
Coban
So you are saying a law that makes sure no one could abuse the system gives an advantage to companies to.. abuse it, how does that make sense?
Net neutrality's whole idea is to protect the customer, remove it and the businesses will run the internet, and they seek nothing but profit, which WILL hurt the customer. Not really sure what your point is.
T

There are many lawsuits about this right now and Congress could act which I think would be the best thing. I disagree that the FCC should keep or get rid of it I think Congress should vote on this or make a law. The worst thing that can happen is internet bills will go up in the future but people like Netflix might have to pay more to get in the high-speed internet line which I think is competition.
T

The internet is not publicly owned. Internet service providers are free to do as they please, as they are private companies and you are not forced to subscribe to their services.

ISPs were limited in the US when net neutrality was in place, now they can completely control your speed on certain sites, block certain sites AND ask for extra money to even use some sites (like in Portuguese). Also removing net neutrality != increased competition. You can't have competition when the market is limited by already known brands
Coban
Coban
e.g netflix. So let's say a new platform like netflix comes out, they either a) have to pay a load of money to ISPs so they wouldn't decrease the speed when people are using their platform or b) just die.

Fact 1: until 2015, the FCC had NO authority over Internet. The Net grew free & unregulated. Fact 2: W/ "net neutrality" the FCC declared power to regulate everything said & done on Internet. That's really bad for freedom.
Coban
Coban
Gabriel, are you with or against net neutrality?
T
Trump15024
I am in the middle but I am against net neutrality mostly because of what I have said above and how the internet grew before net neutrality. With net neutrality, the FCC had the power to regulate everything said and done on the internet.
Coban
Coban
Okay, so you are saying net neutrality gave the FCC the power to regulate everything done on the internet.. You do know that FCC is repealing net neutrality to limit people's freedom, right? You are contradicting yourself.
Net neutrality = Freedom on the internet while limiting bad ISP companies.
No net neutrality = No freedom on the internet, giving bad ISP companies control over the internet.
T
Trump15024
What I am saying is that I am against people who say net neutrality is the end of the internet etc because it's not. Before 2012 we didn't have net neutrality and the internet grew.
Coban
Coban
Hmm, so tell me this. How will REMOVING net neutrality benefit internet users?
T
Trump15024
Here is something I read a news article which helps explain my point: Therefore, a content provider – especially companies like Netflix and YouTube – may wish to pay a little bit extra to a network company to guarantee better quality for its customers. Further,
T
Trump15024
because YouTube, Netflix, and other internet video streaming businesses consume lots of data compared to almost all others going online, it might make sense for Verizon and other ISPs to ask such businesses to pay a little more for their services.
T

Perhaps most importantly, if net neutrality was so important, why is it that the internet was able to grow and operate so successfully from its creation all the way until 2015 without any of these dire problems? The internet operated effectively and efficiently without net neutrality
