Are you crashing when you are joining the server while the resource pack is loading?
I was too until I pre-installed the resource pack for an easier and smoother entry to the server.

In order to download any server resource pack without having any download link, follow these few simple steps.
1. Press the Windows Key + R to open the 'Run box'.
2. Type in %appdata%\.minecraft\server-resource-packs and press 'OK'.
3. Delete all the resource packs in that file.
4. Go to server settings for the server resource pack you want and enable resource pack.
5. Join the server then leave, this will add that server resource pack to the file.
6. You should now have only 1 resource pack in '%appdata%\.minecraft\server-resource-packs'.
7. Change the file type of that resource pack to '.zip'.
8. Move that resource pack into '%appdata%\.minecraft\server-resource-packs'
9. Activate the resource pack from the options in-game.
