Greetings all. I posted some stuff before this introduction before I knew of this requirement, my apologies.

I'm BritishEmpire420, also known as Bass. I'm an 18 year-old History student from Glasgow.

I'm the charitable sort, so if anyone needs anything do say so down below; I'll see what I can do for you.

Have a good day!

On the last day of 1999?

Well, a notable occurrence was the widespread strike of the Millennium Virus. Due to the nature of how computers only recognised the three last numbers on the end of a year, a computer at midnight 2000 would either see the date as 2000 or 1900. Widespread testing of computers was performed, which mostly fixed the problem. There were however some unfortunate mishaps, like people getting stuck in elevators that stopped for a service 100 years overdue.

Sorry for the late reply, I've just been through passing the university exams and finding a summer job. All very time consuming, as you could imagine!

Do you have anywhere in particular in mind? I specialise in British, European and Chinese history but I'm always open to researching new areas...

The impact of the Portuguese on Indian Ocean trade?

The Portuguese found a more efficient route to the Indian Ocean in the late 1490's. The discovery of this route allowed the Portuguese to undercut the trade monopoly held by the Venetians, which as you could imagine was not to their pleasure. The Battle of Chaul following the ultimatum given to Egypt to lower trade tariffs (as to combat the Portuguese advantage of lower trade costs) destroyed a significant portion of the Ottoman fleet. The Portuguese were then able to establish bases in the Persian Gulf as a result of their new-found dominance. These bases would set the tone of how trade would be performed within international relations during the 16th century.
